Athens

The last stop on our honeymoon was one of the world's oldest cities...Athens, Greece. There was so much history to see, that we spent two full days walking the city streets. Some of our favorite spots for eating and shopping were Syntagma, Plaka, and Monastiraki.

Towering over the city was the monstrous and beautiful Acropolis. Pictured here is the Parthenon, the most famous temple of the Acropolis.

Shown here in the background is The Odeon of Heodes Atticus, a stone theratre structure located on the southern slope of the Agropolis. It was built in 161 AD and was used as a venue for music concerts with a capacity of 5,000. They still perform a few plays here however it wasn't open in the summer.

The next few pictures show the Theatre of Dionysis, another open-air theatre in Athens.

Continuing through Athens we stumbled upon Hadrian's Library. Each corner we turned we found more ruins and more history.

We had to pose for a special dip and kiss.

Back in the day, the Ancient Agora was the focus of political, commercial, administrative, and social activity.

All around the city you could find native Greek shoes...of course I had to buy some!

Stray dogs were found all over Athens and don't bother anyone. Store owners actually take care of them and feed them regularly.

The Changing of the Guard in front of the Parliment in Syntagma Square.

We decided to try some grilled octopus for our last meal in Greece...delish!

Mykonos

The next island on our romantic getaway was Mykonos. Highlights included Mykonos Town, Little Venice, and of course their oh so famous beaches.

During the day we meandered through several alleyway shops selling local items such as soaps, sponges, and olive oil.

The area called Little Venice has gorgeous old houses situated on the edge of the sea.

The Mykonos windmills are a trademark to the whole island.

Pictured above is Super Paradise Beach - one of the craziest beaches in the world. Here club music and parties last all day and all night. Gay, straight, clothes, nude...it's all your choice at Super Paradise.

Of course we rented another ATV to get around in Mykonos. That's how we roll!

Each view was more beautiful than the next.

Enjoyig some local mousaka and pathichio for dinner!

Santorini

Jay and I visited the beautiful country of Greece for our honeymoon. Our first stop was at the breath-taking volcanic island of Santorini. Here the towns are all built on the side of the cliff overlooking the caldera.

Going on the walk from Imerovigli to Fira.

The main town of Fira is known for their white-washed houses built on the edge of the caldera.

In Fira we rented an ATV as a means for transportation around the island. What a great way to sight-see!

Stopping for a photo-op, then back on the ATV through the twisty roads to the northernmost part of the island...Oia

In the evening, hordes of people gather to simply watch the sunset from Oia. It is considered one of the most beautiful in the world and every available seat, wall, step or patch of ground is occupied.

Greeks tend to eat dinner late (meaning after 10pm), so of course we followed in their tradition. After the sunset, we drove our ATV to the water's edge for a meal which turned out to be one of our favorites.

Here's our dinner, caught from the sea earlier that day. Greek lobster is different than good old USA lobster...they have no claws. But what it lacks in claw meat it makes up for in body meat. As you can see the lobster is huge!

Each morning we were brought breakfast on our private terrace overlooking the caldera. The fresh squeezed juices, baked breads, and mouth-bursting tomatoes were some of the highlights!

Perissa Beach was a nice outing on the southeast side of the island. After a cool dip in the water, I sipped on pina coladas while Jay enjoyed fredo espressos (iced espressos) - his drink of choice in Greece.

Our favorite excursion was taking a sunset cruise from Thira's Old Port to the volcano and hot springs.

Walking on the volcano in the middle of the caldera.

Our next stop was known as Palia Kameni (aka the hot springs). The ship anchored, we jumped off the boat, and swam into the muddy-looking sulfur bay. A swim and a mud-bath were quite refreshing after a hot walk on the volcano.
