The Old Croton Aqueduct

With the weather over 80 degrees, the Old Croton Aqueduct seemed like the perfect trail to explore by bike. The OCA as it's called, was constructed between 1837 to 1842 with the purpose of bringing water from the Croton River into the New York City resevoirs by the force of gravity. The natural trail atop the tunnel is the longest, thinnest Historic State Park in New York —spanning 26.2 miles. The trail even crosses the property of Lyndhurst castle, where we're getting married in August!

There were lots of little bridges that went over Route 9.

  • Sandy and I took an underground tour of the Aquaduct. It was cool (because it was under ground.)
You should try it some day, but you can't take your bike.

  • This was one of Jeff's favorite spots as a kid! He has mentioned many happy days biking like crazy near the aquaduct with his school friends. :) Thanks for the pictures as I've never explored it!
